Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”
-Hebrews 12:28-29
The ancient Israelites believed that God was powerfully in love with them. They compared this love to a jealous and consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24). It was overwhelming and pursued them through thick and thin, through good times and bad. God’s love is as relentless as a wildfire. And the writer of Hebrews picks up this same idea and uses it as motivation for Christians to worship with reverence and awe!
The school year is nearly back in full swing, and that may be exciting or that may fill you with dread. But remember, we’ve received an unshakable kingdom, forged by the flames of God’s redeeming love. This fall, The Foundry will be your place to worship your way. Join us Wednesdays at the Foundry to experienced God as a consuming fire.
